The Origins: A “Ghost Town” Staple

Bunker Hill Township was established in 1839, primarily by Irish settlers. By the mid-to-late 1800s, “Bunker Hill Center” had evolved into a small village with a blacksmith, a church, and a general store. While many neighboring buildings eventually vanished (leading some to call Bunker Hill a “ghost town”), the general store remained one of the few standing monuments to the town’s pioneer roots.
